Amachree was arraigned before a Port Harcourt Magistrate Court, last month, by the Commissioner of Police in the state, Musa Kimo, on two counts charge of murder. The Magistrate Court on Wednesday declined to continue with the matter, noting that the charges against the accused were capital offences. At the first appearance at the High Court, yesterday, counsel to the accused, Mr. Emenike Ebete, moved a bail application before the court after the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges read to him. However, the Attorney General of the State, Emma Aguma, who is now the prosecuting counsel in the matter, outside the court room, told journalists that the bail application would be argued on the adjourned date. Meanwhile, the trial judge, Justice Margaret Opara, gave the prosecuting counsel four days to file responses to the bail application and also gave same to the defence counsel. Justice Opara adjourned till May 14, for hearing of the bail application.]]>
