*Threatens Legal Action, If Demands Are Not Met The Executive Director and member of Transparency and Anti-Corruption Lawyers’ Network (TRANSLAWN), have written a letter to the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), Mr. Danladi Umar, and the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau, requesting for the assets and liabilities Declaration forms of Mr. Danladi Umar. In the letter dated the 5th day of February, 2019, signed by the Nyerhovwo Ohre Esq., and Maxwell Uwaifo Esq., and made available to TheNigerialawyer (TNL), the duo has written the letter pursuant to the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act, 2011 and the African Charter of Human and Peoples’ Right (Ratification and Enforcement) Act. According to the letter, it is mandatory that he complies with the provisions of Paragraph 1 (1) of the 5th Schedule to the 1999 Constitution, as amended, by filing assets and liabilities declaration forms/returns with the Code of Conduct Bureau in respect of himself and his children of and under the age of 18 years. The duo, therefore, stated that Mr. Umar avail them a copy each of the copies retained by him, of all assets and liabilities forms filed for himself and his children of 18 years and below, adding that, it is the norm that public officers who submit/file assets and liabilities declarations form are given/allowed to retain copies of same, stressing that they are not aware of Mr. Umar having published his assets and liabilities since he joined the public service. They further added that should they not be in receipt of any positive response from him within 7 days upon receipt of the letter, they shall proceed to institute the necessary legal proceedings against both chairmen and seek appropriate reliefs under the relevant laws, which shall include but not limited to declaratory and injunctive reliefs against Mr. Umar that he should be declared as not being a fit and proper person to hold any public office in the Federation of Nigeria and demand that he be prosecuted by the Code of Conduct Bureau. ]]>
