Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, and the Labour Party have denied the rumoured plan of the governor to defect to the All Progressives Congress.
The state chairman of the LP, Emmanuel Otti, described the rumour as a desperate ploy by the opposition to confuse and mislead the governor’s supporters.
This is as Otti, in an earlier statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, on Saturday, labelled the rumour as false, baseless, and unfounded.
The responses came on the heels of speculations that Otti was with Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State to discuss an alleged plan to defect to the APC.
But Ekeoma explained that after the National Economic Council meeting on Thursday, April 24, Otti and a few of his colleagues joined Uzodimma to attend the birthday celebration of his twin daughters.
According to him, the event had nothing to do with politics.
“Governor Otti remains a member of the Labour Party and is presently not planning or discussing with anyone to defect to the APC or any other party for that matter, as falsely alleged,” he stated.
Speaking on Sunday the Abia LP chairman said there was no discussion or initiative about Otti’s plan to defect to another party.
He said, “As a national leader of the Labour Party, Governor Otti has been instrumental in building and strengthening the party’s structure, and it is unimaginable that he would abandon the party’s ideals, values, and his political investment and defect to the APC.”
The LP chairman urged the party’s leadership in the state to remain focused and continue working in preparation for the 2027 general election.
Otti warned naysayers in the opposition to desist from spreading fake news and propaganda, urging them to engage in more meaningful activities rather than attempting to destabilise the LP with baseless rumours.
