Ganduje plots removal of Kano Assembly Speaker, principal officers

Insiders told DAILY NIGERIAN that the governor went into secret meeting on Monday night shortly after he arrived Kano from Abuja at 1:30am. Sources said the governor may only survive impeachment if the Speaker and other principal officers are removed from their posts. “The governor met with some members of his kitchen cabinet including deputy governor, Nasiru Gawuna; commissioner for Local Government, Murtala Sule Garo and; party chairman Abdullahi Abbas, and decided to plot the removal of the speaker and principal officers. “The latest plan is to trace each member’s political background, and then lobby their godfathers to prevail on them to sign for the speaker’s removal. “Last night Murtala Sule Garo contacted a member representing Kunchi/Tsanyawa Constituency, Garba Yau Gwarmai, to be the link man who will meet former Speaker Abdullahi Ata to mobilise other members from his camp. “Each member who agreed to do the bidding would be asked to swear to an oath and be paid. “But as the House stands today, the governor cannot boast of more than 10 loyal members,” said an inside source who preferred not to be named. A Kano High court on Monday ordered the state House of Assembly investigative committee to stop investigation on the bribery allegation against the state governor, pending determination of a case filed before it. The order followed a suit filed by one Muhammad Zubair on behalf of Sustainable Democration of Nigeria. The suit is against three defendants: the Kano state House of Assembly, chairman of investigative committee, Baffa Babba Dan-Agundi and the Attorney General of the state and commissioner of Justice, Barrister Ibrahim Muktar. The presiding Judge, Justice A T Badamasi in an interim injunction, ordered the parties involved to maintained status quo pending the hearing of the motion on notice.]]>
