Female Rep Who Dared Armed Operatives— Daughter, Former High Court Judge in Rivers

Born to a former High Court Judge in Rivers, Boma, 47 is a graduate of the University of Port Harcourt in Rivers State. She currently reprsents Asalga/Akulga Federal Constituency of Rivers State, South-South Nigeria. Her political journey began in the millennium when she briefly worked with former Governor of Delta State, Chief James Ibori as a junior assistant, and later moved to test waters in the politics of the Federal Capital Territory – veing for a Chairmanship position in Abuja Municipal Area Council under the All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP) in 2007. Boma later decamped to the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), to contest for House of Reprsentatives seat for AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency of the FCT in 2011, which she also lost at the primaries. Not finding her political feet in the nation’s Capital, Boma moved back to her home state of Rivers in 2015 to join the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), having cultivated useful contacts with both the current governor, Nyesom Wike whilst the latter was serving a ministerial mandate in President Jonathan’s cabinet, as well as current National Chairman of the party, Prince Uche Secondus. Boma’s first attempt at representing her constituents was met with stiff legal resistance from her APC opponent who succeeded in getting the courts to invalidate her election. Resolute in her quest for a place in the green chamber, Boma went back to the trenches for a re-run election which she again won to finally have her peaceful sujourn as a first time member of the National Assembly. While taking time to under-study her ranking colleagues in the art of lawmaking, Boma, though, not having shown much legislative sagacity with regards to motions and sponsorship of Bills, Boma has in her own way showed uncommon passion to issues affecting her region of the South-South, as well as the protection of her party’s interest whenever the occasion demanded. She’s always quick to confront any percieved threat to such interest, be it embedded in a Bill or a motion, by lobbying her colleagues both at party or caucus levels with a view to killing such moves. Boma had during a committee meeting of the Hoise threatened to break the head of Hon. Abdulrazak Atunwa from Kwara state when the latter wrote to invite the former President Goodluck Jonathan, asking him to appear before an adhoc panel probing the Malabu Oil bribery scandal. It took the intervention of other colleagues at the meeting to quell the brewing assault, as Boma who saw the development as an affront not only to the former President, but also to the Niger Delta region, questioned why Atunwa who chaired the panel would dare to make such a move without inputs from other committee members of which she was one. Also on Tuesday, July 25, Boma took on another colleague, Hon. Nasir Ali Ahmed from Kano state when the latter tried to belabour the legality of his colleagues’ decisions to defect from the APC to other political parties. The Speaker and other colleagues had to intervene to get Boma back to her seat, having been seen making a menacing move toward her colleague. Exactly a week after, Hon. Boma was seen standing chest-out to dare masked gun-wielding DSS operatives and demanding that she and her colleagues mostly male legislators must allowed into the National Assembly. According to insider sources, Boma is a younger sister to Mr Asari Mujahideen Dokubo, an ex-agitator and former leader of the Movevment for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND).
