Fayose, who alleged of a plot to scuttle elections in Zamfara State, said the governor would be held responsible for any act of violence in the state over the Independent National Electoral Commission position barring APC from fielding candidates in the general elections in the state. The former governor in a statement by his media aide, Lere Olayinka, in Ado Ekiti urged the international community to focus attention on the northern state. He alleged, “Now that their plot to impose emergency rule on Zamfara State so that electoral process can start afresh to enable APC field candidates has failed, they are now trying to throw the state into more violence to prevent elections from holding. “Governor Yari must be held accountable for violence in the state. Having surrendered his powers as Chief Security Officer of the state, he should stop making statements capable of inciting violence just because the APC will not field candidates in the elections.” The former governor said it was important for political leaders in Nigeria to operate within the rules, adding: “It is not the fault of INEC that internal crisis in the APC in Zamfara, just like other states cost the party its rights to field candidates for National Assembly, the governorship and state assembly candidates. “Therefore, Governor Yari should just lick his political wounds quietly and let the people of Zamfara elect his successor from among candidates of other participating political parties,” Fayose stated.]]>
