The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has disclosed plans to engage Nigerian women in a nationwide sustainable fight against corruption.
In a statement on Tuesday, EFCC spokesman, Mr Wilson Uwujaren, said the commission was collaborating with the office of the wife of the President, Mrs Aisha Buhari, on the programme.

Uwujaren stated that the programme tagged, `Nigerian Women Against Corruption (WAC)’, was initiated based on the critical role played by women in the family and society at large.

According to him, the programme would be launched by the wife of the president at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, on Dec. 7.

“WAC is aimed at getting the women to buy into the corruption fight and to raise the consciousness of the consequences of corruption in the minds of their households.

“It will also create awareness of the evil of corruption in the larger society’’, he said.

He quoted the Acting Chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, as saying that involvement of women would help to develop a comprehensive women-based programme of engagement that would enhance the anti-corruption fight.

Magu, according to him, said women would thereafter help to act as watchdogs, foot soldiers and whistle blowers against corruption and to drive the regime of probity and accountability.

“A woman who has the ability to build a home can as well tame the corruption monster.

“A woman is a full circle; within her is the power to create, nurture and transform,” Magu said quoting Diana Marriechild.

The WAC programme is coming up on Dec. 7, 48 hours before the internationally celebrated anti-corruption day coming up on Dec. 9.

The crusade will later be taken to the grassroots through the states and the local governments across the country, Uwujaren added.
