The notice of the Eastern Bar Forum has been drawn to the shameful, unwarranted and disgusting conduct of officers of the Nigerian Police Force over the grievous assault inflicted on a member of NBA Onitsha Branch OBASI OGBONNANYA JACOB ESQ.

OBASI OGBONNANYA JACOB ESQ. was brutally attacked and assaulted by the Police when he intervened and pleaded with the Police to stop beating up and brutalising a fellow Nigerian along Awka Road, Onitsha, Anambra State. This drew the irk of the Police men who then pounced on him, beating him up mercilessly.

The Eastern Bar Forum condemns in strong terms the action of the Police in this regard. The primary responsibility of the Police is to protect the lives and properties of Nigerians against criminals, gangsters, bandits and terrorist and not to turn against innocent tax paying Nigerians. It is shameful that at this age and time, the Police are still exhibiting traits of incivility and indiscipline in the conduct of their affairs.

The EBF calls on the NBA Branches in Anambra State to take up this matter urgently and give it all the attention it deserves until justice is served.

Long live NBA!
Long live EBF!
