Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party less than twenty-four hours before the party’s scheduled governorship primary election.

The development came amid deepening factional crises within the PDP, which had already forced the state chapter to announce that the primary election slated for Tuesday would no longer hold.

On Monday, Osun PDP Chairman Sunday Bisi told journalists that the internal crisis had made it impossible to conduct the primary and that Governor Adeleke was no longer interested in seeking the party’s nomination under the current circumstances.

However, a conflicting letter from the PDP National Secretariat insisted that the primary would still hold on Tuesday at the Atlantic Multipurpose Hall in Osogbo.

Hours later, a letter dated November 4, 2025 and signed by Governor Adeleke surfaced, confirming his resignation from the party.

The letter, addressed to the Chairman of Sagba Ward 2 in Ede, cited the leadership crisis rocking the PDP as the reason for his decision.

“Due to the current crisis of the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, I hereby resign my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party with immediate effect. I thank the Peoples Democratic Party for the opportunities given to me for my elections as a Senator representing Osun West and as Governor of Osun State under the party,” the letter read.

Adeleke’s resignation further throws the PDP in Osun into uncertainty as the 2026 governorship race gathers momentum.
