The complainant, who was not comfortable with her case adjournment against Viani Okafor, emptied a large vacuum flask of hot water on the accused body at door step of the courtroom, inflicting serous burns on her back. Also, it took the intervention of Police to stop the unruly complainant from hitting the accused with a stone. The victim was immediately rushed to hospital, while Elizabeth detained at C Division police station, Damaturu. Expressing her frustration, the complainant told the police that she got provoked after the case was adjourned for the third time at the instance of the accused. Our correspondent reports that; the first adjournment was on December 28, 2017. The next adjournment was when the accused engaged the service of a lawyer, who seek more of which the court granted him. However, the last adjournment, on February 8, 2018 was when the lawyer did not show at the seating. The presiding Magistrate, Mrs Hasjya Abubakar, ordered that the lawyer shall appear at the next setting or communicate his lack of interest on the case before the next sitting. Abubakar adjourned the case to February 15. 2018 for next hearing. Earlier, the police prosecutor, Moses Tunjimi told the court that on December 26, 2018 the defendant, Elizabeth David of Malari ward Damaturu, reported to ‘C’ division police station that the accused, Viani Okafor, of New Jerusalem area Damaturu trespassed into her house and defamed her character. He said the accused said that the husband of the defendant has not paid for her bride price therefore she is a baby factory. “He grabbed her cooler, bite her right eye, left hand and finger respectively”, said the prosecutor. You thereby committed an offence contrary to section 348, 392,399 and 244 of the panel code law. When the FIR was read to the accused person, she pleaded not guilty to all the offenses.]]>
