President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday endorsed the governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, for second term amidst allegations of corruption exposed in video clips published by DAILY NIGERIAN.
There have been speculations as to whether the president would raise the governor’s hand when he visits Kano for campaign.
Faced with questions on Mr Ganduje at Kadaria Ahmed’s townhall, The Candidates, on January 16, Mr Buhari denied raising the governor’s hands as a mark of endorsement.
The president said the matter has become a subject of judicial and legislative proceedings, and hoped the issue would be resolved before going to Kano.
“The State Assembly is investigating and they have the mandate to deal with it and they have also gone to court, so I decided not to talk about it,” Mr Buhari said.
“Does Ganduje have to take the money himself, smiling?”
“The system has given me some relief, it is in the court and the Assembly.
“I hope by the time I go to Kano for my campaign there will be some answers from the court or the Assembly”.
But at party’s presidential campaign rally in Kano, the president, assisted by the national chairman of the party Adams Oshiomhole, raised the governor’s hand as a mark of endorsement for his second term ambition.
