One Ahmad who spoke on behalf of the family told the general public to be certain that the family has no hands in the legal suit against Emir Sanusi II, and that they are not party to it, saying the plaintiff “was on his own.” LEADERSHIP correspondent reports that members of the family of the plaintiff were seen holding meeting in respect to the matter. It was gathered that the family had pledged loyalty to Emir Sanusi II, since inception and that about 38 sons and daughters of late Danburam Bayero, father of the plaintiff, were loyal to the present Kano emir, with the exception of the plaintiff, Salim Danburam and one other brother. A family member, who sought anonymity told LEADERSHIP that the family were in shock over the suit and that since the incident things were not normal with them. He said this is what brought about the family meeting and resolution to dissociate themselves from the suit. According to the family, the plaintiff may have individual legal right to file any suit before any court, but in this regard, the family’s name should be out of question. LEADERSHIP also gathered that the story of the legal suit reached the emir while on a first ever working visit to Danbatta district, in Danbatta local government area. A source close to the emir told LEADERSHIP that the emir received the news of the legal suit and promised to look at the development as it unfolds before making emir’s palace’s position known to the court or to the general public. The source described the whole scenario as an act perpetrated by the growing young men in the family. He called for calm among the general public saying that Kano emirate council has not embarked on demolition exercise in the palace but had only embarked on renovation exercise to give the palace a befitting outlook. Places under reconstruction according to the source are the ‘Kudandan of Uwar-Zanka’, a spiritual room of yesteryear history. He said a spiritual mother resided inside the room since the time of Emir Dabo and that it has traditional interior decoration of the olden days for newly wed daughters. Other places in the palace reconstructed were Gangare, soron Jakadiya, Sokoto, Uwar Soro which were places meant for the comfort of emir’s concubines, wives and children. Source: leadership]]>
