Anthony was convicted and sentenced to nine years imprisonment each on counts 1 to 16 and seven years on counts 17 to 21 without an option of fine. The sentences are to run concurrently. The convict was arraigned on February 15, 2016 on a 21-count amended charge bordering on Forgery, Uttering and Obtaining Money by False Pretence to the tune of N 14, 800,000.00 (Fourteen Million Eight Hundred Thousand Naira). He pleaded not guilty to the charge. After diligent prosecution by the Commission, Justice Faji found Anthony guilty on all the counts and consequently convicted him. The investigation leading to the conviction was triggered by a petition from the Hospital Management Board Cooperative Society, Asaba, Delta State . The petitioner alleged that sometime in August 2013 during a routine audit with their banker, it was discovered that the convict who claimed to have replayed his loan, never did. Rather, he forged stamped Bank Tellers to give the impression that he has repaid the loan. The convict repaid the sum of N1,401,515.00 through deduction from his salary leaving an unpaid balance of N13,398,485.00 which he used forged deposit slip to claim payment. Aside the prison sentence, Justice Faji ordered the convict to restitute the sum of N13, 398,485.00 to the victim (Cooperative Society of Delta state Hospital Management Board) while the registrar of the court was directed to forward the copy of the Judgment to the Delta State Civil Service Commission and the State Hospital Management Board for information and necessary action.
