The convict, Usman Muhammad Dajji, was dragged to the court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), following a petition by Sani Abdullahi of Sam Omosco Nigeria Limited, Gombe. EFCC counsel, Barrister S. M. Aliyu, told the court that the defendant, being an official of the Sharia of Court of Appeal Staff Multipurpose Cooperative Society, approached the complainant’s company with a contract proposal to supply 3000 units of laptops to the cooperative society, with a condition that he must pay the sum of N550,000 as commitment and processing fee before the execution of the contract. The court was told that the money was paid, unknown to the complainant, the convict forged all the documents that he presented, adding that the defendant converted the money for his personal use. When the charge was read to Dajji, he pleaded guilty and pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy. In his verdict, Justice Sa’ad Muhammad however, the judge gave him an option of N30,000 as fine in lieu of imprisonment, being a first time offender.]]>
