The Upper Area Court Number Two in Jalingo, the capital of Taraba State, has dismissed charges against one Ahijo Sulaiman, citing the prosecution’s failure to pursue the case diligently.

Delivering the ruling, the presiding Judge Abubakar Kasim Aliyara, condemned the prosecution for repeated delays and adjournments, leading to the decision to strike out the case.

“This case is struck out for want of diligent prosecution. Accordingly, the defendant is hereby discharged for lack of prosecution.

I so hold,” Aliyara declared.

Sulaiman had faced allegations of criminal offenses but was reportedly cleared during investigations by both the police and the military, which found no evidence to support the claims.

The ruling brings an end to months of legal uncertainty for Sulaiman, who expressed relief and gratitude for the court’s decision. Speaking to reporters, he said.

“The judiciary remains the last hope for the common man. This judgment will help restore my reputation and integrity,” Sulaiman said.

Despite his ordeal, Sulaiman pledged to move forward without resentment but issued a strong warning against future attempts to defame his character.

“Any further defamation of my name will be met with legal action,” he stated.

Commenting on the case, legal analysts underscored the importance of diligent prosecution in ensuring the credibility of the justice system and timely resolution for defendants.

The dismissal, they said, serves as a reminder of the critical role of judicial efficiency in upholding the rule of law and protecting individual rights.
