COMPENSATION FOR ROAD AND OTHER ACCIDENTS SUSTAINED BY EMPLOYEES IN PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SECTORS

In Nigeria, employees in Public or Private sectors are entitled to be paid compensation for accidents sustained while on the way between the place of work and:

(a) employee’s residence;

(b) where employee usually takes meals;

(c) where employee usually receives remuneration.

NB: The Act does not apply to members of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria but applies to person employed in the Armed Forces in civilian capacity.

SEE SECTIONS 3 & 7(2) (a)(b)(c) OF EMPLOYEES COMPENSATION ACT 2010.

According to the International Trade Union Confederation, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland and Germany are considered the best countries to work in terms of employees welfare.

While Cambodia, Syria, China, Belarus and South Korea are notorious for gross violation of workers right.
