*Says Lawyers Are Beacon That Will Liberate From The Present Drift.

The Chairman Welfare Committee of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) Y.C Maikyau SAN, has congratulated the members of the NBA Pankshin Branch on its 2021 Law Week.

Mr. Maikyau SAN noted that in spite of the security challenges facing the country members should remain focused and determined.

He further noted that the theme of the Law Week which borders on insecurity is very relevant as the country is currently grappling with insecurity across the country. He stated as Lawyers, the insecurity in the country
should not dampen their morale and commitment to do justice expressing that Lawyers are critical stakeholders in ensuring peace across the country.

“May I most humbly congratulate the distinguished members of NBA Pankshin Branch(The Heartland Bar), on the auspicious occasion of your 2021 Law week”.

He noted that unfortunately, his elation at congratulating them on the successful organisation of this event is rather suppressed by the undeniable reality of the theme:

Maikyau asked which way out with the rising tide of insecurity in Nigeria?

Maikyau SAN noted that we are all living witnesses to the security challenges that have bedeviled our dear country expressing that the beautiful State – Plateau- is no stranger to the sad trend of insecurity.

” We are witnesses to the incessant breakdown of peace from the North down to the South, and East to the Western parts of this Nation. We are witnesses to the denied reality of our Nationhood; that the insecurity experienced in one place, is as much insecurity in every place”.

He further noted it is only right that we of this noble profession, also participate in the contemplation and debate of the way out of our dark travails, with the hope to regain all lost grounds both as members of the Legal Profession and the Nation at large.

Stating that as we do this, suffice for him to add that, whilst peace is the foundation of development, Justice remains the bedrock of peace and as lawyers, Justice must always be our watchword. Let this truism guide our
rumination as we participate in this law week.

Maikyau SAN further expressed it is his hope that the week-long sessions will conclude with useful resolutions that will point us towards the direction of Justice and Peace, not only in Plateau, but across our dear Nation. Let us not despair or be wearied by the experiences.

Noting that Lawyers remain the beacon of hope that will liberate this Nation from the present drift while wishing all participants at the law week fruitful deliberations.
