Dr. Tony Ogiamien, a former Warder/Nigerian Police Officer and a Correction Officer (State Prison Rahway, New Jersey) attended Primary, Secondary Schools in Edo, Ondo and Eastern Nigeria. He received his pre-legal education at Fairleigh Dickinson University, Rutherford, New Jersey. He was admitted to Western State University, College of Law, California for his Bachelor of Science in Law (BSL) degree. In 1978, he proceeded to University of Strasbourg, France, where he earned his Post-graduate Certificate in Human Rights, Law and Theology. He later completed his Juris Doctorate degree (JD) at Western State University in 1980. On his return to Nigeria, he completed the mandatory one year NYSC service at University of Benin in 1982, and was retained to join the Founding class of the Law Faculty as an Assistant Lecturer. He attended the Nigeria Law School in Lagos and was called to Bar in 1996. In 1985, on the recommendations of Professors Adamu Baikie (the then VC, Uniben) and Itse Sagay (the founding Dean, Faculty of Law), Dr. Ogiamien won the British Commonwealth Scholarship Award for doctoral studies in Reproductive Health Law and Ethics tenable at the University of Essex, School of Law, Colchester, England. He was awarded Ph.D. in Law in 1990. Dr. Ogiamien returned to the Faculty of Law, University of Benin, and was promoted Senior Lecturer and Acting Head of Department of Business Law in 1990 and Dean of Law respectively until 1999. Guided under the tutelage of Professor Itse Sagay, he introduced Legal Methods course to the Nigeria Legal System and enforced dress code for law students when he became Dean. As a Dean in the Faculty of Law, he was a member of the Council of Legal Education of Nigeria. He is widely travelled and has attended several seminars and conferences overseas. Widely published, Professor Ogiamien developed the curriculum in healthcare law and Bioethics at several universities and is very well respected in this area. He believes in quality assurance and compliance with International best practices in the education sector, including Open Distance Learning (ODL). Between 1995 and 1999, Professor Ogiamien spent his spare time as education consultant specialising in curriculum development. He retired from the University of Benin in 1999. After relocating to the United States in the year 2000 he was appointed Professor at Trinity Law School. He later took up an appointment in 2002-3 as Administrator at Yuin University, Compton, California. Professor Ogiamien is an Advisory Board Member of the United States Salvation Army (Western District). He is a member of San Bernardino and Ontario Chamber of Commerce respectively. Professor Ogiamien is President and Founder of American Heritage University of Southern California, (AHUSC) United States of America. He became the First African/Nigerian to be granted a License to establish the institution in 2004 by the California Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE). The university is licenced and approved to grant undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in law, business, public policy and film studies. Graduates of the school are eligible to take the California Bar exam. AHUSC participates in Cross-Border education and currently maintains academic partnerships with universities in, India, Philipines, Hong-Kong, Nigeria and Zambia. In terms of public service and extra curricula activities, he was a member of the Implementation Committee of Igbinedion University in 1999. Thereafter, he returned to the United States in February, 2000. Professor Ogiamien is widely respected among private Higher Education owners as an education consultant in the state of California.
