Amari had said that all he did was compliment the female Army cadet by saying she was beautiful. The video, which went viral on blogs and news sites over the last two weeks, showed Amari being slapped, kicked and hit multiple times, causing him to bleed. In an interview with Sahara Reporters after the video became public, Amari explained that the assault took place on December 31, 2014 at the Jabi Lake Park in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, where he serves as a parks and recreation officer. However, the National Chairman of CDHR, Mr. Malachy Ugwummadu, told our correspondent that his office has decided to demand a compensation and public apology for the victim from the Army. Ugwummadu said, “The least we are going to do is to approach the Nigerian Army and insist that it identifies the cadets, who brutalised the young man for no reason. To a large extent, the cadets have denigrated the image of the Army. Such elements should not be accommodated in the military. “We are demanding a full apology that would be published in newspapers and we are also asking for compensation for the young man. “The young man, short of dropping dead, developed medical complications. They were hitting him several times in the head. We have fully debriefed him. The Army should understand that we would go the whole hog if they refuse to compensate the man.”]]>
