The victims were given a state burial with a requiem mass attended by thousands of sympathizers at IBB Square in Makurdi. The National Chairman of the All Progress Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, led members of the party National Working Committee (NWC) to the funeral ceremony. Each speaker berated the Federal Government for being insensitive to the killings of Benue farmers by Fulani herdsmen. The state governor, Samuel Ortom, described victims as heroes of the anti- open grazing law who paid the supreme prize for the law. He said there is no going back on the implementation of the law. Governor Ortom also urged the police to arrest the leadership of Miyetti Allah Katual Hore, particularly the president and Secretary for the killings in Benue State. He challenged any one with a better alternative to ranching to come forward and put it on the table. A former military of Plateau State, Major Gen. Lawrence Onoja (retd), Senator Joseph Waku, Paul Unongo and the Tor Tiv, Prof. James Ayatse, urged the federal government to arrest and prosecute those behind the killing of helpless people in the state. The coffins bearing the bodies of the victims were carried in five open trucks from Benue State University Teaching Hospital to IBB square for state funeral service. https://twitter.com/ChidiOdinkalu/status/951472358572818433]]>
