It should be recalled that the activism is part of the activities held to commemorate the United Nations International Days for the Elimination of Violence against Women and Girls tagged the “16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence” with the theme: ‘Leave No One Behind; End Violence Against Women and Girls’. The Chairperson of AWLA’s Programs Committee, Mrs. Mulikat Audu-Thomas emphasized that women and girls are still majorly the victims of violence and harassment because statistics have indicated that women go through more physical, sexual, emotional, economic and psychological violence which continue to escalate daily. She also used the occasion to condemn violence of any form against men while equally warning women to stop enslaving young girls put under their care as househelps. She enjoined everyone to create a protective and safe environment in their domain, so this menace called ‘Gender Violence’ is totally eradicated. In her response, AWLA Nigeria National President, Mrs. Mandy Asagba pointed out that for AWLA Nigeria as advocates of women and children, the 16 Days of Activism has ended successfully because it has been a period of better information and enlightenment, better philanthropic activities to the vulnerable ones in the society and better human rights education for those that participated in all the daily programs. The important reminder here is that AWLA Nigeria is an Association of Nigerian Women Lawyers who are dedicated to promoting and protecting the rights and interests of women and children throughout Nigeria. These they have been doing with diligence, commitment and passion, over the years. Report compiled by: Oluwatomi Ajayi (AWLA Research) ]]>
