The 2018 Eastern Bar Forum conference programme featured the continuation of an event that has in recent years become a regular fixture of the EBF’s annual schedule. The EBF Unity Cup, which is sponsored by Chief Arthur Obi Okafor, SAN, is a football contest among the 43 branches of the Eastern bar.
The tournament was conceived to bring the people together, to be more committed to the unity of the legal community in the former Eastern region of Nigeria, and to underscore the people’s determination to project a common front in the affairs of the NBA. At the end of the tourney, there are handsome prizes for the eventual winner, as well as consolation prizes for the runners-up.
Now in its semi-final stage, the 2018 edition saw all four remaining bar branches in action on Friday. TNL’s correspondent, who watched both semi-final matches at the Sharks Sports Stadium in Port Harcourt reports that in the first game, NBA Abakaliki branch put up a brilliant display to see off a spirited challenge by NBA Port Harcourt branch by two goals to one, while NBA Onitsha branch was also ruthless in dismissing NBA Umuahia by 2-0 in a match that, however, saw many wasted scoring chances on both sides.
The final game between the victorious Abakaliki and Onitsha branches, and the 3rd place playoff between Port Harcourt and Umuahia, are slated for Enugu at a date to be announced.
