The lead prosecuting counsel, Aniazoka Zokas, who appeared in court with over 20 NBA members from Aguata zone for the applicant, told the court that about five applications were pending in the court wherein they obtained an order of injunction restraining the police from intimidating their client, Onyeagba for discharging his constitutional duties as a lawyer. The police were alleged to have harassed, intimidated and attacked Onyeagba, after scaling his wall, for handling a land matter for his Umuncheke community in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State. This is despite a persisting court order restraining them from harassing or attacking Onyeagba until after judgement. Onyeagba, it was also learnt, has been in hiding for over a month now for safety reason. Counsel to the 3rd and 4th respondent, Mr. A.N. Oboh also asked for more time to study the applications, which he said he received on Thursday morning. The Judge handling the matter, Justice I.N. Oweido granted the motion. Zokas told journalists that Aniazoka condemned the attitude of the police in flouting court order which he described as court contempt. “We got the court order and the police filed a motion to discharge that order, yet they are not obeying the order. They are still haunting our client and member, Onyeagba. They sent him out of circulation and sent him out of his profession. He is no longer practicing now. I don’t know where he is, I don’t know if Onyeagba has been kidnapped and I can’t even reach him. The police should explain where he is. Obviously, the young man is running for his dear life or has been kidnapped. “Since the police are aware of the order but want to disobey it with impunity, we filed another application, form 48, which is a form of notice to a person who is disobeying court order that if he continues, he risks going to jail,” he said.]]>
