ACCI wants strict enforcement of data protection regulations

He said the need to step up enforcement of data protection was born out of the massive penetration of mobile telephony data availability at the disposal of many people. Kayode said the irresponsible use of personal data had led to issues of human rights violation as well as impacting negatively on national security. The ACCI president said while the country did not need to isolate itself from the international networks, there was a need for the protection of personal data. This, he noted, would enable the country to avoid where data of individuals were unnecessarily exposed to strange contents. Kayode said, “I must laud the efforts of the various agencies present in order to carry on their mandate. Let me also note that regulation is one thing, the power to regulate is completely another. “Anytime I received a targeted unsolicited message from a telecommunications company, it keeps me wondering about how easy my personal data has become to operators of networks. Much worrying is when such messages carry some elements of commercial touch without any iota of commission to me. It is not supposed to be so.”]]>
