The ebullient Governor of Lagos State is at it again. About 30 lawyers working in the Lagos State Judiciary finally heave a sigh of relieve as they are now to be absorbed into the system as permanent staff of the Judiciary like their counter parts in the Ministry of Justice. This follows a directive from His excellency Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode mandating the Head of the Judiciary, the Chief Judge of Lagos State, through its appointing body, the Judicial Service Commission, to absorb the lawyers who have been on contract for the past eleven (11) years. This is a positive development in the growth and welfare of members of our noble profession. Thenigerialawyer recalls that the acting president, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo SAN, when he was the Attorney General of LAGOS State, came up with the idea that lawyers should be employed to assist judges in making research, writing judgments and other judicial assignments. Since then, these lawyers have been contract staff of the Judiciary not until now that Gov. Ambode Akinwumi has given a declaration that they be absorbed into the system finally.]]>
