The police in Abia State yesterday arraigned a 71-year-old lawyer and lecturer at the Abia State University Uturu, Katherine Onwughara before an Umuahia Magistrate’s court for unlawfully entering a property sealed by order of the court among other charges.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and applied for bail through her lawyer, Adizua Okoroafor which presiding Magistrate, Ude Egwu granted to wit- one million Naira with two sureties of like sum who must show evidence of means of livelihood.
The case was adjourned to 6th February, 2019. The matter was between the State Commissioner of Police and Onwughara following the complaint said to have been made by Chukwuemeka Adiele who stood as the Complainant.
According to the charges, the accused allegedly on the 13th of November 2018 forcefully and unlawfully broke into a property (Kate White House) at Umuagu Ibeku under the Umuahia magisterial Jurisdiction already sealed by the orders of the Court.
However, the defendant’s daughter, Sharon Onwughara has sought the intervention of the state government in the matter to save her family from further harassment and threats by Slok Nigeria limited over a disputed property known as Kate White house whose rooftop according to her, was demolished by Agents hired by the company
Sharon Onwuhara, said the dispute over the property has common boundary with the Cika Hilton Hotel which case has been in court for several years even before the demise of her mothers’ husband. Sharon alleged that Slok claimed it got the property in an auction when Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) was recovering properties and also claimed ownership of the said Cika Hilton Hotel.
Sharon said her mother woke up one day and saw a notice pasted on her property claiming that NDIC was trying to recover Cika Hilton Hotel and her own property, explaining that both properties, although share same boundary, do not have the same Certificate of Ownership and Survey Plan.
