*Awomolo, SAN Writes Chief T.J.O Okpoko, SAN & BOSAN, Says President Of NBA Must Be An SAN

In the wake of the forthcoming Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) National Elections, Mr. Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN has written to Chief T.J.O Okpoko, SAN, a former President of NBA (1998) and the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria(BOSAN) on the state of the forthcoming July elections.

The Secretary to Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (BOSAN), Chief Awomolo, SAN, expressed his fear that members of the Outer Bar are making moves to wrestle the office of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) president from the members of the Inner Bar

This was contained in the letter written to Chief T.J.O Okpoko, SAN and which was copied to BOSAN, Chief Awomolo disclosed that it would be in the interest of the Legal Profession for the position of the NBA President to be held by a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), in order to preserve the seniority in the Bar on the one hand and  “the integrity, honour and respectability of the Office of President of NBA” on another hand, signed by the learned silk and which was made available to TheNigeriaLawyer.

Furthermore, it was noted that the present revolutionary quest to “wrestle” and take away the position from a SAN by junior members in the Bar will be “unfortunate”, calling for an urgent meeting of past Presidents of the NBA to save the situation.

It would be recalled that the Open Bar Initiative has in a tweet expressed dissatisfaction with the letter written by the learned silk.

“This letter is a warning to all juniors carrying the Banners of SAN in 2020.

“We received the letter of Awomolo SAN to BOSAN against non-SANs…with grave disappointment.”

Before filing the report, TNL put a call across to Chief Awomolo, SAN, but he didn’t respond, though Chief Okpoko, SAN, confirmed receiving the letter.

Meanwhile, the letters read:
