* Obuah wades into Amaechi, Abe rift Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has relieved all his special advisers of their appointments. A statement by Special Assistant to the Governor on Electronic Media, Simeon Nwakaudu, however, noted that Special Adviser on Religious Affairs, Bishop Winston Iwo, retains his post. Governor Wike had recently sacked all the members of the State Executive Council. The sack of the commissioners came 48 hours after he sacked his Commissioner for Works, Bathuel Harrison. Also, sacking of Harrison came less than 24 hours after Austin Tan-George, his Commissioner for Information and Communication tendered his resignation over alleged “high handedness by the Governor.” Meanwhile, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Rivers State chapter, Chief Felix Obuah, has offered to settle the rift between the former governor of the state, Chibuike Amaechi and his bosom friend and political ally, Senator Magnus Abe. Senator Abe served as information commissioner in Amaechi’s eight years administration. Ironically, the duo are now at each other’s jugular, over who contests the governorship in the state in 2019 on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC). While Amaechi is alleged to be opposed to Abe’s 2019 governorship ambition, the senator is not deterred, as he is said to be making efforts to actualise his dream, through consultations, including wooing some national leaders of APC, to support his governorship ambition. Restating his resolve to settle the rift between the two political leaders, Obuah, however, expressed fears that the rift was taking what he regarded as, ‘irreconcilable dimension’. “It is becoming too embarrassing for the two APC leaders to be insulting themselves, both on air and in print, and by extension, the Rivers people.” Obuah, who spoke in Port Harcourt through his media aide, Mr. Jerry Needam, said though he belonged to a different political party, he would not relent to seek ways of brokering peace between the duo, who he said, “are still dear to me.”]]>
