THE National Judicial Council (NJC) queried Justice Olamide Oloyede of Osun State judicial division over alleged snatching of Mrs Emily Richard-Obire’s husband, because the new rules governing conducts of judicial officers cover such allegation.

The query, which got the council lampooned by the public, has, however, been answered by the judge.
Her response got to the council on Wednesday, August 26.

In the response, she denied snatching the petitioner’s husband, adding that the man in question is a divorcee of about three years.

Empirical judicial evidence that the man is no longer in a legally-recognised marriage was also alluded to in the response.

It was, however, gathered within the council that Oloyede could be liable of misconduct if it was established that she actually snatched the petitioner’s husband.

Misconduct, in the revised NJC Judicial Discipline Regulations 2014 adopted on November 3, 2014, under the chairmanship of former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Aloma Mukhtar, includes “conduct prejudicial to the effect and expeditious administration of the business of the courts or any conduct described as misconduct in the Constitution and the Code of Conduct for Judicial Officers of Superior Courts.”

A top source told the our reporter that a judge was sacked in the United States of America for the same allegation against Oloyede.

The same day Oloyede’s response was received at the council, an administrative review of it was conducted by the requisite authorities.

The official outcome is yet unknown.

A top system source however explained that the accusation of witch-hunt against the council was unfounded, because it was even in Oloyede’s interest to be cleared once and for all, through the administrative process of asking her to explain her own side of the story.
