Med-View Airline has denied knowledge of any law suit by some of its passengers over flight cancellation. The airline said in a statement signed by its spokesperson, Mr. Obuke Oyibotha, on Tuesday that it had yet to be served any court papers. The PUNCH had reported on Monday that passengers on Med-View Airline’s flight VL2120 and VL2118 scheduled to travel from Lagos to Kaduna and Abuja on Sunday, August 13, 2017, had dragged the carrier before the Federal High Court in Lagos over the alleged cancellation of their flights. According to the report, the suit was filed by Maj. Gen. Obidah Ethan (retd.) and Kayode Babalola on behalf of themselves and 29 other passengers who bought the airline’s flight tickets. The claimants are each seeking N1m as general and aggravated damages, and another N1m as exemplary and punitive damages against the airline for what they termed as negligence on its part. They are also praying the court to put the cost of filing the suit on the airline. Oyibotha, however, stated that the airline had not received any pre-litigation letter as the practice, or properly served court papers. He stated, “As a responsible organisation, the airline welcomes genuine complaints from passengers, and such complaints regarding flight cancellation, delays, missing baggage and refunds are handled in line with civil aviation laid down procedures as contained in Part 19 of Civil Aviation Act, 2013. “But sensationalism of impeding litigation in the press without recourse to us is tantamount to trial in the media, which is a grandiose scheme to whip up public sentiments.”]]>
