Chief Executive Officer of Risk Control Services (RCS), Mr. Olufemi Ajayi, has said private security industry in Nigeria was poorly regulated. Ajayi stated this in an interview with reporters on the sidelines of the award of International Standard Organisation (ISO) certification for Quality Management systems, ISO 9001:2008 by the Standard Organisation of Nigeria in Lagos.
“There is no regulatory body that ensures compliance in Nigeria, that is why we had to submit to an international standard,” he said. Ajayi said a lot of the regulation the country has is targeted mainly at security guard companies, adding that: “That law is incomplete, it has to include so many others like anti-counterfeiting, consulting, forensics, body protection amongst others.”
He said the security industry is huge and the government needs to put regulations in place, the absence of which may result in disorder.
