The NYRG argued that Saraki was playing a “spoiler’s role” in the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari in preparation for the 2019 presidential election. The committee’s report, presented to the Senate on Tuesday, accused the SGF of having an interest in one of the firms, which won the contracts for the projects in the Internally Displaced Persons in the North-East. The Senate asked Lawal to immediately resign from office and face prosecution for alleged abuse of office. At a press briefing in Abuja, however, the National Coordinator of the group, Charles Folayan, said the report of the committee, which accused the SGF of corruption, was influenced by Saraki in order to discredit the Buhari administration. He said, “The Senate President is perceived to be working for some local and international cabals to frustrate the efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari administration and possibly disrupt the All Progressives Congress and later jump to another party in 2019 to push for his selfish agenda as usual.”]]>
