The centre which will be launched on Thursday March 24 at Nigeria Institute of International Affairs, NIIA, Victoria Island Lagos, with the topic “The Code of Conduct enshrined in the Constitution of Nigeria and its crucial importance in the fight against corruption, according to him will be a non-government and non-partisan organisation. Disclosing this at a press briefing in Lagos yesterday, Nwabueze said that the aim of the centre is to enlighten and educate the public, legislators, judicial officers and politicians on the importance of the constitution and the rule of law in promoting the administration of justice and government in Nigeria as a whole. “The vision for the centre is to achieve these aims through a series of conferences, lectures, training programmes and awards,” he said. It should be noted that Professor’s lifelong passion for the law and constitution as an aid to preserving the fabric of our society and human rights has made him prolific champion of the Nigerian Constitution for which he was one of the founding creators. While maintaining that his hope for a strong and united society is everlasting, he remains optimistic, that despite the issue faced in the country today, “that Nigeria will one day achieve its status as an iconic state is unshakable.” Having already authored numerous books and articles on the topic of constitution and good governance, Nwabueze feels there is no better way to help continue to build the nation than leave a legacy in the form of the centre. He said: “The Code of Conduct is currently experiencing notable publicity in Nigeria’s current war against corruption which makes it important for all key personnel involved in the legal, political and commercial fields to have a clear understanding of the Code, its processes and its crucial importance in the current fight against corruption. “The conference will be based on detailed papers and practical case studies, with participants engaging in in-depth discussion on opinions and information expressed by our invited speakers. To speak at the conference are, Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo (SAN) as the special guest of honour, Minister for Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola (SAN), Justice Lawal Uwais, former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Alfa Belgore, former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Professor Chidi Odinkalu, Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN), Constitutional lawyer and Human Right Activist among others. The centre’s Executive Director will be Adaeze Nwabueze, the founder’s daughter and a lawyer previously based in the United Kingdom who has relocated to Nigeria to achieve and build her father’s vision.]]>
