The centre which will be launched on Thursday March 24 at Nigeria In­stitute of International Affairs, NIIA, Victoria Island Lagos, with the top­ic “The Code of Conduct enshrined in the Constitution of Nigeria and its crucial importance in the fight against corruption, according to him will be a non-government and non-partisan organisation. Disclosing this at a press briefing in Lagos yesterday, Nwabueze said that the aim of the centre is to en­lighten and educate the public, legis­lators, judicial officers and politicians on the importance of the constitution and the rule of law in promoting the administration of justice and govern­ment in Nigeria as a whole. “The vision for the centre is to achieve these aims through a series of conferences, lectures, training pro­grammes and awards,” he said. It should be noted that Profes­sor’s lifelong passion for the law and constitution as an aid to preserving the fabric of our society and human rights has made him prolific cham­pion of the Nigerian Constitution for which he was one of the found­ing creators. While maintaining that his hope for a strong and united society is ev­erlasting, he remains optimistic, that despite the issue faced in the coun­try today, “that Nigeria will one day achieve its status as an iconic state is unshakable.” Having already authored numer­ous books and articles on the topic of constitution and good governance, Nwabueze feels there is no better way to help continue to build the nation than leave a legacy in the form of the centre. He said: “The Code of Conduct is currently experiencing notable pub­licity in Nigeria’s current war against corruption which makes it important for all key personnel involved in the legal, political and commercial fields to have a clear understanding of the Code, its processes and its crucial im­portance in the current fight against corruption. “The conference will be based on detailed papers and practical case studies, with participants engaging in in-depth discussion on opinions and information expressed by our invit­ed speakers. To speak at the conference are, Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo (SAN) as the special guest of honour, Minister for Power, Works and Hous­ing, Babatunde Fashola (SAN), Jus­tice Lawal Uwais, former Chief Jus­tice of Nigeria, Justice Alfa Belgore, former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Pro­fessor Chidi Odinkalu, Chairman of the National Human Rights Commis­sion, Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN), Constitutional lawyer and Human Right Activist among others. The centre’s Executive Director will be Adaeze Nwabueze, the found­er’s daughter and a lawyer previous­ly based in the United Kingdom who has relocated to Nigeria to achieve and build her father’s vision.]]>
