The ongoing election cases at the National and State Houses of Assembly tribunals sitting in Asaba have taken a different dimension.

The matter has also pitched the Speaker, Monday Igbuya of Delta State House of Assembly, with the other opposition petitioners.

The petitioners alleged that 23 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members at DSHA contributed N5 million each with which to compromise the panel of judges and receive a favourable judgment against them.

But the Speaker has rebuffed the allegation that he coordinated the contribution of the money, describing it as wicked, baseless and reckless.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Mr. Henry Ebireri, he described the allegation that the Speaker approached the lawmakers especially Labour Party lawmaker to bring N5 million to settle the panel of judges at the House of Assembly tribunal to get justice as rubbish.

While stating that it is a political fabrication aimed at undermining the Speaker’s integrity, he stressed that the speaker would not mortgage the country’s democracy, accusing some members of the opposition of putting personal interest above those the people they represent and the state.

Ebireri who also called the allegations nonsense, appealed to office and money-seeking politicians to temper ambition and greed with concern for public good and genuine welfare of the people while he said journalists should protect Igbuya from undue harassment by self-seeking elements whose stock in trade is to hide under the banner of the media to bring down their imaginary or perceived opponents.
