Information reaching TheNigerialawyer reveals that the Oxford University Press has confirmed the wrong definition of words in its Mini Reference Dictionary. This was contained in a reply letter titled: ”Wrong Definition of Words,’ with reference No:’ #12241863 made available to TheNigerialawyer. In the reply letter, to the claimant who had earlier lodged a complaint to the body, the Oxford University Press through its Direct Service team, confirmed that the said error is true but has been addressed already. The reply reads: ”The dictionary has been through many updates/new releases and the issue you have described has been addressed, but thank you for reporting the error.” TheNigerialawyer recalls that an activist, Ogedi Ogu has sued the Oxford University and the Oxford University Press for giving wrong definition of the words ”Mortgagor and Mortgagee”. According to the facts disclosed in the court processes, the press’ Mini Reference Dictionary had given the definition of Mortgagor as that of Mortgagee and that of Morgagee as Mortgagor. The claimant had argued that he was thoroughly embarrassed and has since then suffered loss of professional esteem, as his colleagues had stopped asking for his opinion or advice on any legal issue. He therefore seeks for an order of court to award him a cost of 10 million naira as damages.]]>
