The Nigeria Bar Association yesterday said it was ready to partner with Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State to recover funds allegedly looted during the former administration of Dr Kayode Fayemi.
The body also promised to offer legal assistance to ensure that those found culpable are prosecuted in compliance with the constitution.
In a letter jointly signed yesterday by the chairmen of Ikole, Ikere and Ado Ekiti chapters of the association, Barristers Ademola Adeyemi, Bunmi Olugbade and Foluke Dada, respectively, the lawyers said they owed it a duty to ensure that justice prevailed in society.
Fayose had upon assumption of office said he inherited about N76 billion debt from the former administration, describing it as a serious burden on the state.
But Fayemi had on several occasions said he was prepared to defend all actions taken while in government, saying whoever has anything against him should petition the EFCC. The NBA also urged Fayose to make public its findings on the workers’ verification exercise undertaken by his administration to fish out ghost workers.
