The Secretary of the Port Harcourt Branch of the NBA, Cordelia U. Eke FIMC (Mrs) has written a letter to the Chairman of the Electoral Committee of the NBA, ECNBA, protesting the purported list of qualified members of the Port Harcourt Branch of the NBA forwarded to the Committee by the branch chairman, O.V. Frank-Briggs Esq. According to the letter dated the 27th day of April, 2018, the secretary was said to have been informed, to her greatest surprise, by the chairman of the branch that the list of qualified members of the branch had already been sent to the ECNBA without confirmation of particulars of the said members or input whatsoever from the secretariat, adding that this was intimated to her office after an enquiry was made to that effect. Voicing her worries further, she noted that upon further enquiry, it was discovered that the chairman took over the financial books of the branch which were being typed by the confidential Secretary and had them typed privately in conjunction with the Financial Secretary, from where he forwarded same in secret to the ECNBA without being cross-checked or vetted by the principal officers of the branch or the Secretary to confirm membership and contact details. According to her, this is unconstitutional as only a list or correspondence jointly signed by the chairman and the secretary of the branch should be accepted as the authentic list of the branch. The secretary therefore seeks for the timely intervention of the committee to address the issue. In the letter, she categorically requested that in order to guarantee transparency and credibility of the process as pertaining to role to be played by the branch, and in order not to disfranchise members of the branch, the committee should discountenance the list signed and sent by the branch chairman alone until an updated list which is signed by the Chairman and Secretary of the Branch is forwarded to the committee.]]>
