The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has arraigned before a Federal High Court, Lagos a salesman for dealing on alleged fake drugs.

The suspect, Kingsley Dibie was charged on a two count charge bordering on the alleged offence.

When the charges were read to him, he pleaded not guilty. His counsel made oral application for bail but was opposed by prosecuting counsel, Umar Shamaki.

As the trail judge, Hadiza Shagari decides to remand him in pending formal bail application, the sobbing suspect informed the court that he turned in himself to their Association after he had discovered that the drugs were fake.

As a result, the judge granted him bail in the sum of N1m and a surety of not lower than level 15 in the civil service as well as a landed property in Lagos.

The first count accused him of being in possession of fake drugs named Citrim 480 Cotrimoxazole Tablets.

According to the prosecutor, the offence is contrary to section 1 ( a) of the counterfeit and fake Drug and unwholesome processed Foods (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act Cap C34 LFN 2004.

The second count said the suspect on or about February 3, 2016 at Idumota Market sold unregistered drugs named Citrim 480 Cotrimaxole tablets in a manner that is silent. The offence is said to be contrary to Section 5 (a) of food and drugs Act cap F.32 LFN 2004 and punishable under section 17 (1) of the same Act.
