N2bn suit: Analyst sues DSS over 7-month detention

Gazali Alli, is praying the court to award the sum as general and aggregated damages against the Agency for the illegal violation of his fundamental rights to life and dignity of his person, and freedom of movement since April 3, 2017 till date when he was arrested and thrown into custody without arraignment. In the suit No: FHC/ABJ/CS/ 2017, filed by lawyers, Alli also asked the court for an order directing his immediate release from the detention facility of the SSS. Alli has spent about about 7 months languishing in detention without arraignment, amidst concerns by his family over his health concerns. It has been alleged that Gazali’s travails are not unconnected as a result of his closeness to the acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu. The DSS is allegedly fishing for information to present Magu in a bad light. He is praying the court to declare that the continued detention of the Applicant by DSS in their facility since April 3, 2017, without needing charged to court for a known offence is illegal, unconstitutional as it violate the applicant right to personal liberty. The application which is brought in pursuant to S 33,34,35,36,40 &46 (1)&(2) of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended seeks the enforcement of the fundamental rights of the Applicant’s rights to personal liberty, dignity of his person, fair heating, health and freedom of association of movement. The application which raised 3 issues for determination is also praying the court to order declare that the hacking of the applicants telephone lines and monitoring of telephone conversation is a violation of his fundamental human rights.
