A 27-year-old man, Reuben Asom, has been arraigned before a Lagos Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ebute-Metta, Lagos State, for alleged theft of food items worth N9,000.

Asom, who resides at Railway Otto Market Way, Oyingbo, is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, unlawful break-in and stealing.

Asom told the court that he started loading fish at Suru-Alaba market with a company about two years.

He told the court that he went into a shop to steal Indomie, maggi, pepper, egusi, crayfish. He said he did all this because he was hungry.

He added that when the owner of the shop caught him with the items, he was beaten up and he decided to run into a church.

He also said that those who were in the church also beat him up and inflicted injuries on him before he was arrested by the police.

The magistrate, N.A Layeni, adjourned the matter till September 10 for sentencing.]]>
