An Abuja Grade 1 Area Court has sentenced one Gazali Garba to two months imprisonment for escaping from police custody in Byazhin, Kubwa.

The accused was convicted for criminal trespass, causing grievous hurt and escape from police cell, offenses contrary to sections 348, 247 and 173 of the Penal Code.

The police prosecutor, Babajide Olanipekun told the court that one Mohammed Adamu of tipper garage, Byazhin, on September 9, complained at the Kubwa Police station that the accused, on same date, entered the premises of Land Batalion church, Byazhin.

He said the accused remained there with the intention to annoy, intimidate and commit offence, and used a knife to attack, assault and cause severe injuries on him (Adamu).

According to the prosecutor, the accused, while inside the police cell at Byazhin police post, acted in a dubious manner and broke the ceiling of the cell and escaped, but was later rearrested.

When the charges were read to the accused, he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to seven months imprisonment by the judge, Mohammed Marafa, with an option of N9,000 fine.
