A legal practitioner, Adebiyi Ogundeyi, was on Thursday, arraigned before an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court for forging bail bond and impersonation in a rape case.

The lawyer, according to a charge sheet number MA/380c/2015, was arraigned alongside 60 -year-old Emmanuel Oluwunmi on a four-count charge.

Ogundeyi, according to the charge, was alleged to have forged a bail bond to secure a bail for an accused rapist, Nurudeen Olonade.

Olonade was said to be undergoing trial before an Abeokuta High Court sitting in Isabo, Abeokuta, the state capital, which was presided over by the Chief Justice of the State, Olatokunbo Olopade.

The duo were said to have committed an offence, contrary to and punishable under section 467 of the Criminal Code Revised Law of Ogun State in Nigeria, 2006.

They were alleged to have gave information of building plan of one Mr Saka Adekunle, for the procurement of bail for the alleged rapist and committed an offence contrary and punishable under section 125 (A)(1) of the Criminal Code Revised Law of Ogun State, 2006.

They were also accused of presenting perjury bail bound document for the procurement of bail for Olonade and committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 118 of the Criminal Code Revised Law of Ogun State, 2006.

When the charges were read to them, the two accused persons pleaded not guilty to the offences.
They were admitted to bail by Chief Magistrate Anthony Araba, to a sum of N1 million each and two responsible sureties each in the like sum.

The sureties, according to the ruling, must also be employed residents of the state within the district of the court and must be persons with registered landed properties within Abeokuta.

Evidences of the landed property, according to Araba, must also be attached to the bail bond alongside regular tax payment to the Ogun State government.

The magistrate also ordered for the verification of the documents by the Assistant Chief Registrar of Chief Magistrates’ Court,while the evidence of written verification of the issuing and approving authority be exhibited in the case file alongside two passports each of the accussed and sureties.

The Magistrate ordered the Investigative Police Officer, handling the case to duplicate the case file and forward same to the office of Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.
The case was adjourned till October 12, for mention.
