He said his administration was committed to improving the standard of living and protecting the rights of the people of the state, particularly, women, children and the underprivileged. The governor stated this through the state Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Omowumi Olatunji-Edet, while inspecting some facilities under the ministry. According to him, the laws on child abuse, domestic violence and other inhumanities were still subsisting and the government would use the law against any violator. He said, “This ministry will give more commitment to see that those that err are brought to book. These issues have laws that back them up and the ministry works with other ministries to see that the desired result is achieved.” The commissioner also lamented the deplorable condition of the facilities in the ministry, saying much attention would be paid to orphanages in the state. “The ministry is designed to see to the issues that concern families and children. After going round all the facilities, I discovered that we are not there yet. With what I have seen today, it further confirmed that we need to pay more attention to the situation. The homes and facilities need more attention and comprehensive rehabilitation to make them habitable for the children,” Olatunji-Edet said.]]>
