The attorney general, who was listed among lawyers recently elevated by the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee to the Senior Advocate of Nigeria rank, said this last week while hosting the newly-elected chairman of the NBA, Ikeja branch, Mr Dele Oloke, who paid him a courtesy visit in his Alausa office. The Ikeja NBA, under its immediate-past chairman, Mr Adesina Ogunlana, held a series of protests in March to challenge the new Lagos State Land Use Charge. According to a statement on Wednesday, Oloke, the new branch chairman, was accompanied on the visit to the Lagos Attorney General by some elders of the NBA branch, such as Messrs Femi Falana (SAN), Dele Adesina (SAN), Roland Otaru (SAN), Layi Babatunde (SAN) and Monday Ubani. The new Ikeja NBA chairman pledged the association’s preparedness to partner and engage with the state government with a view to ensuring social justice for all. “We are ready to always partner and engage the government on all issues of concern rather than fight government,” Oloke said. In response, Kazeem, who described the NBA as a critical partner with government, said the association would be engaged in the process of law making so as to ensure a balanced output for the masses. In his remarks, Falana called for appointment of senior lawyers as customary court judges. He, however, said such senior lawyers would need training so that they would not use technicality to inhibit the speed of justice administration at the grassroots.]]>
