NBA Election Notice

The Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association constituted by President, A. B. Mahmoud, SAN to conduct 2018 elections into national offices of the NBA has released a preliminary notice on how the election (activities) will be carried out.

In accordance to Section 9(2) and paragraph (2)5 of the Second Schedule of the Nigerian Bar Association Constitution (Amended and Adopted at the AGM Abuja on 27th August, 2015), the election into the national offices of the NBA by its members shall be conducted by E- Voting (Universal Suffrage).

According to the notice sighted by The Nigeria Lawyer, dated 13th April, 2018 and signed by the Committee Chairman, Prof. Auwalu Yadudu and the Committee Secretary, Bolaji Agoro, Esq, the election shall commence from Friday, 27th July, 2018 at 23:59 hours to end Saturday, 28th July at 23:59 hours.

That the offices for which members or candidates will be eligible to contest on the basis of rotation among the three(3) Zones prescribed by paragraph 2.2(b) of the extant constitution of the NBA (As Amended) and their qualifications are as appearing hereunder:

The list of states that make up the respective Zones are set out in paragraphs 2.2(e)(i), (ii) and (iii) of the extant NBA Constitution (As Amended).

A candidate for any elective national office shall be nominated or proposed in writing by a member and seconded by another member both of whom shall be qualified like the candidate in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Constitution for the equivalent office and in good standing with their practising fees and all other Branch levies.

For the avoidance of doubt, the States that make up each of the zones are highlighted as follows:

I. Eastern zone are_ Abia, Akwa Ibom, Anambra , Bayelsa, Cross Rivers, Ebonyi, Enugu, Imo and Rivers.

II. Northern zone are- Adamawa, Bauchi, Benue, Borno, Gombe, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, Plateau, Sokoto, Taraba, Yobe, Zamfara and FCT- Abuja

III. Western Zone are- Delta, Edo, Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun and Oyo

All nominations are to be submitted not later than 4p.m on the Thursday 31st May, 2018. All duly completed nomination forms should be sealed and addressed to:-
