J.S. Okutepa, SAN has resigned as the Lead Prosecutor of the Nigerian bar Association (NBA) at the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee (LPDC). The senior Advocate who is also a member of the General Council of the Bar (GCB) informed TheNigerialawyer, that the reason behind his resignation is because he has served the NBA for five years and it is time for him to leave for other lawyers to have the opportunity to render their services to the Association . In his exact words “There are many other lawyers who can do the job. I have prosecuted for the Nigerian Bar Association for over five years. Let other lawyers do the work. I have paid my dues and time for me to take my exit”. J.S. Okutepa SAN is currently an astute legal practitioner of great repute and industry; regularly described as an iconic legal salamander. Mr. Okutepa attained the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria on 7th July, 2011 after 21 years of profound legal practice. Mr. Okutepa was appointed Notary Public of Nigeria by the Hon. Justice M. L. Uwais, Chief Justice of Nigeria (As He then was) in 2001. Okutepa has led several teams of lawyers in the last 25 years in several landmark cases for individuals, corporations and Government/Government Agencies and has by these efforts contributed immensely to the development of the Nigerian jurisprudence; these cases enjoy constant law reporting. Okutepa has also led outstanding efforts in huge debt/entitlements recovery for corporate and individual clients through negotiations, conciliation and litigation; recovering and enforcing judgments that run into Billions of Naira. As an astute Bar man for over two decades, Mr. Okutepa is a leading voice and National Executive Council (NEC) member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA). He is a member of the General Council of the Bar (GCB).
