The Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), has alerted Nigerians to a new appointment scam masterminded by some fraudsters to dupe people by inviting them to apply for political appointments under the Federal Government.
According to a statement issued by the Commission and signed by its Media Consultant, Mr Folu Olamiti, the syndicate behind the scam, which is impersonating the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, has been sending fake letters to several potential victims offering them various political positions they could apply for.
The positions offered include appointment as Ministers, Special Advisers/Assistants, Ambassadors, Chairmen and Members of Boards of Federal Government parastatals.
A sample of the fake invitation letter reads as follows:
“…You’re directed by the secretary to government of the federation to submit your CV with recent passport photograph including GSM telephone numbers, email via: sgf.frn@presidency.com .
It is believed that those who fall for the bait are then requested to pay specific sums of money to process their applications and arrange favour to obtain their desired positions.
The ICPC statement therefore warned the public to beware of such unsolicited messages. It also advised anybody who received the message and has paid any sums of money into any specified bank account to forward details of the transaction to the nearest Police Station or ICPC office or scan same to the Commission’s email: info@icpc.gov.ng
