A middle-aged woman, Morolake Akindele, has taken her husband, Abiodun, before a Grade ‘C’ Customary Court sitting at Mapo, in Ibadan South East Local Government Area of Oyo State, over his troublesomeness.

The plaintiff, a tailor, who lives at Oke-Ado Area of Ibadan, claimed that her husband married her a virgin about 16 years ago and that the marriage is blessed with four children.

According to her, “I want the dissolution of our marriage because my husband has turned me to a punching bag. He is a troublesome person.

“Over his troublesomeness, three different landlords have sent us packing from their house. He has married another two wives after me.

“Recently, he beats me mercilessly and packed all his belongings to live with his new wife. He threatened to kill me with a chemical substance and had poured the chemical on me before but God saved me. He abandoned me at the hospital when I was about to be discharged. He did it to avoid paying the hospital bill.

“I want the court to separate us and I also want the court to give me the custody of the children because I am the one that has been taking care of them and their future is important to me.
“My Lord, that’s all I have to say for now.”

Abiodun, an iron-welder, while responding to the allegations, said he admitted the claim made by the plaintiff.
He further said: “I want this court to know that my wife is a flirt and disobedient woman. She is wayward and always disobeyed me.

“I always intentionally told our landlords to give us quit notice whenever she started her waywardness. I did not pour any chemical on her, she lied.
“The children are presently living in my sister’s house but they are here in the court as your lordship requested.
“My Lord, that’s all.”

In his ruling, President of the court, Chief Odunade Ademola, said: “Having heard the claims of both parties, the court observed that the children are living in a place away from their parents. Therefore, the court rules thus: the divorce on repayment of bride price is hereby granted and the custody of the children is given to the plaintiff.”
