Chief Rafiu Oyeyemi Balogun (Baloo) at Ado Ekiti for the Law Week programme of Ado Ekiti Branch held at Aare Afe Babalola Bar Centre. During the Public Lecture titled: LAW, SECURITY AND DEVELOPMENT. In my brief remarks while delivering a goodwill message, I emphasised good governance as the panacea for security challenges and underdevelopment in our Country, Nigeria. Most of the crimes being committed like Kidnapping, Cyber Crimes , Bank Robbery etc are perpetrated by our frustrated unemployed youths. Thousands of our graduates are roaming the streets and it is axiomatic that an “IDLE MIND IS THE DEVIL WORKSHOP”. After the mandatory one year service, they are thrown to the Labour Market already saturated. No plan for them, no social security to cushion the harsh effect of being unemployed. Even the Artisans and Business Men are not spared from the cumulative effects of bad governance and incompetent Leadership over the years. Corruption and corrupt practices reign supreme in our beleaguered Nation and the downtrodden masses are worst hit by these menace. Professional bodies or Associations find it extremely difficult to regulate their Professions as the new professionals injected into the system or society would want to survive at all cost and in most cases , they jettisoned the sacred professional Rules and Ethics. Too bad, but come to think of it, what is put on the table for them by the Associations or Professional bodies they belonged, if the government fail them. I am afraid there is nothing to write home about in this regards !!. The Nigerian Bar Association is a very revered Professional Association. The Association owes its members a duty to take care of their welfare and alleviate the apparent suffering of Young Lawyers and the Senior Lawyers in distress. The time is now to formulate proactive policies to take care of members of the Bar who must pay their practicing fees as a matter of duties and responsibilities. It amounts to professional misconduct if a Lawyer fails to pay his profesional fees and he can be dragged to LPDC for Professional Misconduct. The Bar must balance its constitutional duties and responsibilities to the society at large as the conscience of the Nation and to her members as provided for in the Constitution of the Nigerian Bar Association. The National Secretariat of NBA is very key to the actualization of the duties and responsibilities of a virile Bar. The Office of the GENERAL SECRETARY is a serious Office and must be manned by a seriously minded Bar Man, Articulate, Dogged Fighter , Amiable , Accessible and God Fairing. We commit the project into the hands of God Almighty and we are hoping for the best. # YouAreInMyMind # ICareAndLoveYouAll ]]>
