The Ondo State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps has said it had got the support of the Ondo State Judiciary to set up mobile courts to try and punish traffic offenders in the state. The mobile courts, according to the sector command, would be set up in all the 18 local government areas of the state. The Ondo State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Mr Rotimi Adeleye, stated this on Wednesday in a chat with journalists at the secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Alagbaka, Akure, the state capital. Adeleye, who lamented the high rate of road crashes in the state, explained that there was a need for the mobile courts to be set up, saying punishing the offenders, through the courts, would reduce reckless driving, speeding and non-compliance with the traffic laws by the motorists. He said, “We need to set up the mobile courts to prosecute anybody that violates traffics laws in the state; this is very necessary. We have got the consent of the judiciary; we have met with the chief judge of the state and she had given us the assurance that the courts will be set up. “When the mobile court is set up, the judiciary will give us one magistrate for each of the courts; so, very soon, the mobile courts will take off at an unannounced date in the state.” Adeleye, who sought the cooperation of the media with the corps in reducing the rate of road accidents in the state, said the sector command would not relent in its efforts to enlighten the general public on the importance of adhering to the traffic rules and regulations.]]>
